Looking Back on 2017 as we approach the New Year of 2018

December 29, 2017 - As we look forward to 2018, here’s an update on things we’ve accomplished at Applied Instruments in 2017:

Signal Level Meters
• Began shipping XR-3 Wi-Fi units
Details about the XR-3 WiFi Operations
• Released the XR-3 Remote app for Android
Details about XR-3 Remote app
Soon we’ll be offering the XR-3 Remote app for iOS / Apple.
• Launched 2nd generation Turbo S2 satellite meter module (part number XR-TS2-02) for the XR-3, which adds tuning capability from 2500-3000 MHz (in addition to the standard 250-2150 MHz) for troubleshooting band 3 on the output of a node on DISH Hopper 1 and Hopper 2 systems.
XR-TS2-02 Specs
• Within the next two weeks, we will release a software update for the XR-3, which includes an enhanced Limit Scan screen, among other things. The new Limit Scan screen provides more information at a glance and allows saved scans to be recalled and viewed on the meter.
More information and instructions about the new Limit Scan
• The Li-Ion batteries in the XR-3 last much longer than the Ni-MH batteries used in the older Super Buddy meter.
• If you plan to migrate your fleet from the older Super Buddy meters to the XR-3 in the near future, please let us know to assist our production team with inventory planning.
• With the winter season approaching, it may be a good time for technician training. Please let us know if you desire webinar or onsite meter training.

Test Signal Generators
• We are now shipping CSS-1200™ Calibration Signal Source units. The CSS-1200 generates very stable test signals to verify the amplitude measurement accuracy of your CATV signal level meter. Is your CATV meter accurate? Weather, accidental drops, and simple aging can affect the accuracy of its readings. Verify analog signal level, digital signal level, and noise floor readings quickly and easily with the CSS-1200.

Noise Power Ratio Testers
• We have improved our Return Path NPRT 2200 Noise Power Ratio Tester and shortened its lead time.
• Units can now be configured with up to four bands and four notches. Popular frequency bands (and notches), in MHz, are: 5-42 (21.4), 5-65 (30.5), 5-85 (41.0), 5-120 (60.0), 5-234 (117.0), 5-300 (150.0). Others are available.
• The new hardware includes new source and receiver circuits, delivering higher max NPR values (75 +/- dB). The NPRT 2200 continues to be a great tool for providing fast, accurate NPR measurements in a single unit, eliminating the need to lash up several separate test instruments. With the NPRT 2200, you can quickly and accurately perform NPR tests on HFC active devices (amplifiers, lasers, etc.), which is ideal for a production environment or lab testing.

As the telecom market continues to evolve, we welcome your feedback and requests for instruments for new applications. We are glad to inform you of test solutions that we already offer and are eager to learn your needs.

Thanks for your continued business. We hope you and your families had a Merry Christmas and enjoyed the holidays and that you have a happy and prosperous New Year!

New! Model XR-3 Signal Level Meter

Feb 12, 2015 - Applied Instruments proudly introduces new XR-3 signal meter.

The XR-3 is the most capable meter offered by A.I.I. It’s more durable than the popular Super Buddy satellite meter, and has added features and performance. The XR-3’s modular design with field swappable modules provides wide versatility to fit different measurement applications, including DBS satellite, VSAT satellite, VHF/UHF off-air, and CATV (QAM and analog). The XR-3 is great for installing and troubleshooting SMATV headend systems often used in hotels, multi-dwelling units, and institutional facilities. From satellite dish alignment, to UHF off-air antenna pointing, to cable TV MER measurements, the XR-3 is the meter for you!

Click here for more information about the XR-3 signal level meter!

Click here to read about the benefits of the XR-3 and its advantages over the popular Super Buddy 29 satellite meter. Since the user interface and menu styles are the same for the XR-3 and Super Buddy, there isn’t a learning curve for the techs that have experience with the popular Super Buddy satellite meter. Also there are big long-term cost savings for the users since the XR-3’s Li-Ion battery’s long-term life is about double that of the Super Buddy’s Ni-MH battery and it’s easy for the user to replace the XR-3’s battery themselves.

Applied Instruments introduces the
AI Turbo S2 satellite meter!

Feb 20, 2012 - Applied Instruments is proud to introduce the new AI Turbo S2 satellite meter.

The AI Turbo S2 satellite meter is rugged, versatile, and easy to use.

Satellite technicians in the USA that install DBS / DTH (i.e. Dish Network, DIRECTV, Bell TV, Shaw Direct) will appreciate its faster speed and its hefty Li-Ion battery. The AI Turbo S2 can also tune to the 250-750 MHz band, which is becoming more useful as satellite service providers incorporate new methods of band-stacking outside of the normal L-Band (950-2150 MHz). The AI Turbo S2 is compatible with all satellite signals and LNBs for Dish Network, Bell TV, Shaw Direct, and others. There are a few new features related to DIRECTV, including the ability to control the DIRECTV SWiM LNBs and SWiM modules and display an estimated signal quality for the DIRECTV 99 & 103 Ka satellites.

Users in the commercial broadcast segment of the satellite industry will really appreciate the AI Turbo S2 meter's DVB-S2 compatibility (and the DVB-S, Digicipher 2, DSS, and Turbo code signal demodulation capability that are also featured in earlier Applied Instruments satellite meters), ability to see the constellation, and ability to quickly save spectrum plots for later viewing on a PC.

Other possible applications for the AI Turbo S2 satellite meter are Free to Air, VSAT, SNG, CATV headends, and teleports.

The model AI Turbo S2 satellite signal level meter has all of the great features of the Super Buddy 29 and more. Owners of Super Buddy satellite meters will migrate to the new meter with ease and feel right at home, as the style of the menus and keys is very similar. Click HERE to download a comparison chart of the new AI Turbo S2, the Super Buddy, and the Super Buddy 29 satellite identification meters. In summary, the benefits of the AI Turbo S2 when compared to the Super Buddy meter are its much stronger, longer lasting, and easier to replace Lithium-Ion battery, faster signal locking (including DVB-S2 signals), faster start-up, downloads, and proof of performance scans.

Find and ID the satellite and troubleshoot with speed and precision using the AI TURBO S2 satellite meter!

For more information, please visit the AI Turbo S2 product page by clicking HERE. Please send an email to info@appliedin.com if you have any questions about the AI Turbo S2 DVB-S2 satellite meter.
